An exceptional large platter carrying a hand-drawn scene of an arched, domed building flanked by pairs of palm trees — a softly rendered interpretation of Egyptian Islamic architecture. The architecture is drawn in fine pen line, the palm fronds and domes in washes of teal and indigo, with delicate stippling across the foreground. A piece that rewards long looking, with small details emerging as you move around it.
At 47 cm this is closer to a work of hand-painted ceramic art than a service piece. Best displayed — wall-mounted, propped on a sideboard or as a dramatic centrepiece — rather than kept in regular use. The palette of teal, indigo and warm cream reads strongly against both pale plaster walls and darker wood backdrops.
