Our Story
Bekya was founded by Gabriela Asquith, the daughter of a diplomat whose childhood and career took her from India and Saudi Arabia to London and New York, where she led PR for leading lifestyle brands.
It was in Egypt that Gabriela found a lasting connection — to its craftsmanship, history, and artistry. After fifteen years living and working alongside the country's most skilled artisans, she created Bekya to celebrate their remarkable work and bring it to a wider audience.
Every piece — from hand-painted Fayoum pottery to alabaster and hand-blown glass — is made to Bekya's exacting standards of quality and beauty. Guided by an understanding of what resonates with British homes, Gabriela curates each collection with a refined eye for texture, balance, and authenticity — honouring Egypt's centuries-old traditions while creating timeless pieces for modern living.
Working directly with small workshops and master craftspeople, Bekya preserves techniques passed down for generations. Many designs are one-of-a-kind or limited editions, created in small batches and never mass-produced. Once sold, they're rarely repeated — making each discovery a true original.
